It starts...

It happened, today I OFFICIALLY became a part of the Garwulf team over at Huntsmanslodge

You can read my first real official post Here....

To be honest I was a little stunned and shocked at the amazing honor of being able to write for one of the most well known hunters out there occasionally. Garwulf rates right up there in my eyes with those like Bigredkitty and the like. When I saw that he liked my work I was thrilled to pieces, even started writing this thing occasionally to fill in between the times when I won't be writing over there.

Hope to see you all over there!

Halls of Reflection...Err Retardation?

Yeah that's right you heard me, I said it. The Halls of Reflection, the Third and final dungeon in the chain of new dungeons and the current bane of my entire existence as a hunter. Well, I take that back...It was the bane of my priest until I beat it into a couple poor little pugs that CC is Yummy.
It tastes like chocolate...if you were wondering.
Amazing how that works isn't it? Half a dozen wipes and the priest says. "CC plx?" suddenly it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yes Thank you, I'm the winner of the Ms. Obvious contest. *gets a hat and t-shirt for her efforts*

Really though in all honesty? WHAT is so complicated about standing in the middle of the room, or by the door and using some good old fashioned crowd control? Most of us know what that is, a large amount actually uses it. So tell me why as a hunter or a priest, you're making me stand in the corner and get cluster%$#^&@ by AoE damage, rogues, Tormented Rifleman's 12k shots after a ice arrow and those terrible terrible warrior things who hit my poor priest for more health then what she has. Pug's are the worst at this, I can say in the over 2 dozen times I have run this instance, there have been 2, I count them again for you. TWO! pugs I have been in who don't get me killed at least twice. Generally speaking, it's a wipe several times over before they get the hang of it. Leaving my little self sitting in the corner, pleading with them to get out of the corner and to stop being so completely lazy about it, usually to much failure and tears on my end when they refuse to listen. On the priest, I gave up. I stopped healing them in the corner and purposely let a couple of them die when they were being silly little aggro whores. I don't even get asked to try and trap anything the bulk of the times I am in there, they just go "oook LoS, we is good. Noob Smash!" In my mind it's usually accompanied by a mental image of them looking large, green and slightly orcish to fully illustrate the inanity of the situation.

I seriously feel more and more like this hall of reflection brings out the stupid in us. I never understood why it was a smart idea to back yourselves into a corner and hope for the best while something big bad and ugly wants to smash you into little horde pieces into that same said corner.
Maybe he's redecorating? Besides the point, the HoS is a great instance. I actually love it. It's one of my favorites...When done in a way that doesn't make my hunter think about putting her head between the jaws of Errtu and telling him to bite down hard.

Undead CAN BE CC'd people...Traps, Shackles, Repentance, Turn Evil. That crazy aoe undead move that stuns undead that pallies do...yeah that works as well. Not every pug you run of HoR is going to have a tank and healer of the 5k+ GearScore range, hoping to skate through every single time is just teaching you bad game play techniques.

If you're having issues with this instance or know those who are, when are you in a group with someone who cant CC at all? Almost never I can assure you, then perhaps you could pass this little number onto your friends and neighbors...Because I am about to bedazzle you! *jazz hands*

that was too much wasn't it...

Halls of Reflection...A How to Guide to keep your friendly neighborhood priest happy, alive and not willing to sacrifice you to save her repair bill.

  • One of the most simple elements of this fight is that you can position yourself in a ideal way to deal with them. As a priest the most effective way I have found was standing on the anvil in the center of the room on the dais. It means anything that comes for me has to go through one of my 4 party friends to reach me in a more ideal situation. It also allows me to zoom out ridiculously far, spin around in a 360 degree spike and shackle as freely as my little heart desires.
  • Standing near the door is another appropriate means of dealing with the undead in this room. Allowing you to SEE what is heading your way with a nasty look in his glowing undead eyes.
  • ALWAYS CC the Riflemen. They hit, hard. Dealing a nasty ice block stun and followed by a huge crit that is available after said iceblock. I've seen it one shot clothies. You were warned. If you have the abilities to, do it. Dont wait for permission. These guys have been the number one cause of wipes. Some healer get smashed on by these as they are shooting through the wall.
  • Healers can CC too?!...I was serious there. Not only are you now a leet healer for doing so, you can prove you can multitask! Channel your inner PvPer!
  • Don't go past your tank into the room. Unless it is for a CC purpose, they will aggro to the closest one they spot and if that is you. Enjoy the flight back to your corpse.
  • Watch the mage's. If there's more then one who is capable of CC these are the second priority to keep locked down. Their AoE is nasty and they love to go after the clothies, healers and little hunter's who seem like easy targets.
  • I repeat, Do NOT expect someone to save your @ss in here. After the first boss it's hell on wheels and you not only have to watch what you are doing, what you are CC'ing but you have to be extremely aware of what's going on with the tank. He can't pick up every single one of them usually on that 7-8th wave of undead. It gets hectic, make sure you are capable of watching out for your own hide at that point. Using any means of threat reduction, threat dropping, or threat transference you have at your disposal.
I listened to WoW.com's broadcast the other day. If you haven't you should go check it out, they brought up a lot of valid points. Bringing up things that the general community can be doing since blizzard is bringing CC back. I fully agree, we are the ones who need to change our habits from what we've learned this Expansion. We need to function as our role and class and learn how best to use what we have readily available to us. Blizzard has already made it ridiculously easy for people to gear, raid and so on. But we can't expect them to make this easy for us as well or we might as well just be saying we'd rather go play Neopets or the like. Blizzard has issued us a challenge, to step up to the plate and bring CC back into the fold.

I know I intend to answer the challenge. How about you?

It's about time...

After several months of running around with my Staff of the Plague beast from Naxx 10 I finally got an upgrade. Yeah, a severely significant one. This being of course the sexy new staff from normal FoS. Is it not a ilvl 232 item? No, not really...but well. beggars can't be choosers and Dk's need to stop winning the epic polearm from H HoR off of Me. So Here I am, happy as a clam with my hunter today as She has gotten not only a few upgrades, but about half her gear has recieved a much needed boost from crafted/ ilvl 200/ badge items.

First up on the yum factor? Yeah a sexy new bow that had my name all over it. I still had the crafted engineering gun because I never got the ToC H one to drop. Of Course though wouldn't you know it... two heroics later and guess what drops....

A nice new Staff, which I desperately needed I will add...

A ring, A neck and 2 peices of t9 just to round the deal out...

I don't know, I must say, I think she looks alot better now. I am definitely enjoying this LFG system, despite it's severe drawbacks being things I don't wish to discuss at the moment. Well I will let you decide on the matter. How many badges have you gathered up lately? On how many different toons? How long is it taking you to gear up an really low level alt if you work at it? Currently I am sitting on about 250 for my priest and 200+ on the hunter. And to think, sometime I can do this for my druid, Paladin and Mage too. YAY me?

\cringe

yeah yeah, gotta love my t7 legs and chest eh? Classy right?

Looking back this week at Patch 3.3

Yes, everyone and their dog is writing about patch 3.3 currently. Even I had to jump on the bandwagon and play my little tune to the beat of my own drums. Here's some of the things I've noticed and appreciated since the patch was released.

  • - New LFG System
  • - Severe changes to dungeon/heroic badges
  • - Uber Hunter buffs
  • - Disenchanting party-wide option
  • - Ability to laugh at a DK while going "neenerneener neener" at him in battlegrounds. (This is one of my favorites personally.)
  • - The Battered Hilt for your very own version of the Quel'Delar. (I still have not even seen one of these by the way)
  • - Wonderful profession changes
  • - New method of Reputation gaining Oh yeah, I've gained like 5 exalted reps in the last week.
  • - Fun little Badge of Frost bug
  • - Demon Puppy of Doooom!!

I wont bother talking about all of these, but I will sit and talk about a couple points that I really feel good about and was extremely happy to see as well as a couple I was less then pleased about.

As you may have noticed, the new LFG system is insane. I mean, it's bonkers. In 3 days I've regeared my priest and partially the hunter, just casually doing this. On my priest as a healer i click the LFG button and it's damned near instantaneous for a group. I am really not exactly sure if using the LFG system is supposed to be bugged or not, as I am not really getting saved to any instance. Yesterday alone I was in a heroic ToC 3 times, a Heroic HoR 4 times and a Violet hold twice. It's kinda crazy. I'm wrangled up about 200 badges total between the two toons I am playing like I won't have game time in a week and it's wearing me thin I must admit. It's fantastic that in the span of a few days with chain running 15 minute heroics you can regear even the shoddiest geared alt of yours to t9 or more.

On the patch morning I sat there impatiently waiting for my server to come back up. When it finally did I was thrilled, I logged on. Got my fabulous new Core Hound Pup in the mail. However, this wasn't the only new thing. My server was up...hmm maybe 20 minutes? Before it went down and went down hard for about another 2-3 hours. It came back up *eventually* And when it did I started doing what every sane person in their right mind would be doing. Thats right. Heroics. After a couple runs I noticed something very very strange however. That was that after every heroic I finished, I was getting an extra 2 badges of Frost.

Wait, huh? Say that again? Yeah you heard me right.

It was shocking to say the least. I followed the forums a bit, saw a couple blue posts on the matter but mostly just alot of complaining from the people who didn't have the bug and were irate at the rest of the ones who had the bug. Here's what Malkorix said over Here.

Thank you for the heads up, Blutritter. You are correct in that this is not how Emblems of Frost are intended to be distributed. At this point, our staff are aware of this issue and investigating. It is not clear what will occur with the Emblems of Frost that have already been accrued, but it is probably best to ignore them for now.

As long as you don't actively make use of those emblems, it is very unlikely that anything untoward will occur regarding an account suspension. I hope that eases your mind on the subject a bit?
Well, I am really not sure as of yet what they intend to do with the bugged out badges, considering my priest yesterday was sitting on a lofty 32 of the things and I wasn't even really trying to get them. After a reset and a few hours it seems the issue was resolved, complete with alot of griping in the guild, forums and server. Not to mention plenty of ideas on how to keep said badges due to the cunning use of game mechanics.

One of the great new things about this patch is the Disenchanting option if you have a Enchanter of the appropriate level in the party. It's not only made Enchanters obsolete as profession whores, but it's opened up a whole new level of farming. I logged an alt account to sit there in Dalaran while a guildie ran low level instances for Enchanting mats. Yeah. It doesn't matter where you are, what level you are or even if you're looking at the screen, your enchanter has now become a bot for everyone's gain but your own. Aren't you feeling special right about now?

On a less then positive note I wonder if it's working properly. I've lost a few things to enchanters I could have used for a offset by greeding on it. Well, it seems the system is still a little borked and needs to have the bugs shaken lose out of it. Watching a very nice bow get DE'd because I chose to greed it for my pvp set then need it for my main set. I was the only one who get even use it in the party and got to watch as "XX receives loot: Abyss Crystal". I'll tell you, I think my little hunter heart up and died on me after seeing that.

All in all while there is a lot to be said about the patch, some good and others not so much. Will there be changes implemented to fix some of these issues? Praise Gamer Gods, let it be so. Will I get to keep my badges of frost? Pretty please with Gnome ears on top? Will the queue for LFG be more affected or less for DPS? It's almost worse then the BG Queues.

Guess we will just have to wait and see huh...

Wouldn't you know...

So I was doing my random heroics yesterday, Utgarde Pinnacle. Not one of my favorites as a hunter. We did great, smashed through. I got to sit there and preen cause I was tearing up the damage meters with my 4100 gearscore against people far more geared then myself. I love this new system, it's a bit of a pain as a DPS but not completely intolerable to work through. 3 upgrades by badges alone in a day. Woot?
Hunter's as a whole seem to have gotten a rather healthy buff to their damage with Culling of the Herd and all thsoe other juicy little tidbits.

oh yeah, 3.8k DPS. I felt freaking fabulous. Considering it was at least twice what i was doing before the patch.

Well we get to Him. Yeah and guess what. it dropped.

Blue Proto-Drake

I would like to point out I have now seen and won this mount, twice. Once on my paladin and ended up giving it away to a friend, to which he was extremely grateful for.
Oh did you notice something? Oh yeah, in the screenshot see the fabulous little red text on the item?

lol. Yup, you are correct. My hunter doesn't even HAVE epic flying, she cant even use one of the prettiest mounts in game in my opinion.

Oh well? It forces me to farm 5000g for her so she can.

wait...that's not very fun.
/sigh So much for my Mechano-hog.
